英国人住的房屋有哪些类型呢？

Bungalows don't have any stairs and are all on one level. Sometimes bungalows have a second floor built into the roof. Usually old people like to live in bungalows because they don't have to climb any stairs!

平房（Bungalow）没有楼梯，全部都在一层楼。但有的时候，会在平房的屋顶扩建第二层楼。英国的老人一般喜欢住在平房，因为他们不需要爬楼梯。

This house stands on its own and isn't joined to any other buildings. It is called a detached house. Most detached houses have a garage and a garden.

图中是独立的一栋的房子，不与其他的建筑物相连，它被称作独立式房屋（Detached house）。大部分独立式房屋都有一个车库和一个花园。

This is a semi-detached house. It has another house joined onto it on one side. Most families live in semi-detached houses in the suburbs. Usually semi-detached houses have a garden.

图中是半独立式房屋（Semi-detached house）。半独立式房屋的一边与另一座房屋相连（相连的这两座房屋都被称为“半独立式房屋”）。大部分郊区的人们住在半独立式房屋。半独立式房屋通常都带有一个花园。

These houses are all joined together. They are called terraced houses. Terraced houses were built close to factories in cities for workers so they are normally very small.

图中的这些房子都成排连在一起，叫做排房（Terraced house）。排房被建在城市的工厂附近供工人居住，因此排房一般都很小。

A small old-fashioned house is often called a cottage. Cottages are usually found in villages or in the countryside. This cottage is very special. It has a thatched roof which is made from straw.

老式的小房屋通常被称为村舍（Cottage），一般在英国的农村乡间，可以看到这样的村舍。图中的这座村舍非常特别，它的屋顶是用麦秆做成的茅草屋顶。

These homes are called flats. They are stacked on top of each other. They are becoming more and more common in big cities because there is not much space to build other kinds of houses.

图中的这些房子被称作公寓（Flat），他们在空中层层堆叠起来。公寓在大城市越来越常见，因为在大城市没有足够多的空间来建造其他类型的房屋。

This home is on wheels and can be moved around. It is called a caravan. Usually, caravans are found in a caravan park and they are normally holiday homes.

图中在轮子上可以移动的房子，叫做房车（Caravan）。通常房车建在房车公园里，房车一般被人们用作度假屋。

These homes float on water and are called narrowboats or canal boats. Originally, canal boats transported goods around the UK. Nowadays, people live on their canal boats and they are commonly seen in Northern England.

图中这些浮在水上的房子（船），叫做运河船（Canal boat）。最初，运河船在英国用来运输货物，现在人们住在运河船上。在英格兰北部的运河上，可以经常看到这些运河船停靠在河岸边或是缓慢前行。
